ETHANOL BOOM FUELS LOCAL ECONOMY

Friday, December 30th, 2005 -- 8:49 AM

The ethanol boom is having a big economic impact in our own backyard. A & B Process Systems in Stratford is announcing plans to double the size of one of their four Stratford plants. Rochelle Hill, a spokesperson for the company, says the expansion is due in large part to growth in the ethanol industry.

"It's doubling the size of the plant to allow for growth within the ethanol industry," Hill says. "That industry is growing so fast right now -- we need additional space."

A & B Process Systems engineers, fabricates and installs process system equipment.

Hill says they are shipping ethanol-production equipment not only to plants in Wisconsin, but around the country.

"Primarily in the Midwest, however some of the ethanol producers are expanding out in the East, Tennessee and newly in the California area," Hill says.

A & B plans to add a 21,000-square-foot expansion that will lead to 60 new welder/fabricator and welder/fitter positions. A & B currently employees 250 people at their four plants and corporate office in Stratford. The addition is slated to be complete in May 2006.
