Latest Marquette Law School Poll

Thursday, August 12th, 2021 -- 11:01 AM

(Raymond Neupert, WRN) The latest Marquette Law School Poll shows that Wisconsinites opinions on Governor Tony Evers appear to be holding steady.

The latest Marquette Law School Poll shows that Wisconsinites opinions on Governor Tony Evers appear to be holding steady. Poll director Charles Franklin says the Governor is generally well liked.

50% approve, 43% disapprove, a net plus 7 on that. We last asked about this in October just before the election last year and we got the same numbers, 50% approve 43 disapprove."

Senator Ron Johnson may be coming into next year's election with a tougher sell to voters. This month's Marquette law school poll shows that his approval ratings are down.

Franklin says Johnson faces an favorable rating of just 35 percent and an unfavorable rating from 42 percent of respondents. "So while his favorable number has changed by going down about three points the unfavorable is shifted up by 6 points."

Johnson has not announced if he'll be running for a third term as Senator. A host of Democrats have stepped up into the race against him already, including State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski and Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes.

More people are approving of Governor Tony Ever's job of handling COVID-19. Franklin says the Governor's seen a marked improvement on those numbers since last year.

"54 percent approve, 39 disapprove. In October it was 52 approved, 45 disapproved so actually his net approval on handling the virus has actually gone up a bit."

The Governor has had to spar with Republicans both in the Capitol and in the courts on how to handle the state's response to the coronavirus.
