RUDY UPDATE: REMAINS FOUND

Thursday, December 8th, 2005 -- 9:25 AM

(NEILLSVILLE)Investigators have discovered what appear to be human remains, but it is unclear if they are those of a missing Thorp woman.

Christine Rudy, 21, was last seen on November 12th when her husband, Shaun Rudy, 23, says he left her on a rural Clark County road during an argument. She is six-months pregnant.

The remains have been sent to the Department of Justice Crime Lab in Madison for analysis and possible identification, according to a Clark County Sheriff?s Department press release.

Information about the location, timeframe and condition of the remains is not being released at this time, according to Chief Deputy James Backus.

Shaun Rudy told investigators he left his wife on County Trunk ?MM? near the Clark/Eau Claire County forest. The Sheriff?s Department has conducted numerous searches of this area, the most recent was conducted Tuesday, Backus said.

Shaun Rudy is not a suspect in Christine?s disappearance, but is a ?person of interest? as the last person to have contact with his wife, Backus said.

Shaun Rudy waived a preliminary hearing and was bound over for trial on unrelated firearm and drug paraphernalia charges in Clark County Circuit Court Wednesday.

On November 18th, a witness says Rudy took her and a male passenger to a storage facility near Thorp where she saw Rudy, a convicted felon, handle three ?hot? guns. Rudy sold one ?long gun? to the man, according to the criminal complaint.

Soon after the exchange, a Thorp police officer pulled over Rudy?s vehicle because the rear window was completely covered in snow. The officer found a pipe ?consistent? with those used to smoke marijuana and methemphetamine in the glove compartment and the cased firearm in the backseat, according to the criminal complaint.

The witness made her comments after requesting to speak to detectives about a case ?unrelated? to the firearm charges, the criminal complaint says.

Rudy is being held in Clark County jail on a $1,000 cash bond and a probation hold.
