Resurface Project on Wisconsin 98 Begins Tomorrow

Wednesday, July 14th, 2021 -- 1:00 PM

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $4.57 million contract to resurface WIS 98 from Elm Drive in Loyal to the Clark-Marathon County line.

Construction starts tomorrow, Thursday, July 15th. American Asphalt of Wisconsin of Mosinee is the prime contractor. The existing pavement on WIS 98 is deteriorating, some culverts need work to maintain drainage, and existing guardrail no longer meets standard heights for crashworthiness.

To address these, WisDOT is planning to resurface approximately 9.5 miles of WIS 98, clean culverts, repair end walls and remove brush to improve drainage, adjust guardrail, install centerline rumble strips in rural areas to enhance safety, and place new pavement markings.

The contractor is holding a public meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Loyal City Hall, 301 N. Main St., to discuss the project’s schedule and traffic impacts.

WIS 98 will remain open to traffic during construction, but motorists can expect daytime lane closures controlled by flagging operations during paving.
