THREE PEOPLE SHOT, ONE DIES DURING OPENING WEEKEND

Monday, November 21st, 2005 -- 12:14 PM

The opening weekend of the 2005 gun-deer season is in the books and at least three people have been shot. One, 66-year-old Dale McDowell from Danbury, was killed Saturday afternoon in a state forest in Webb Lake in Burnett County.

Department of Natural Resources spokesman Bob Manwell says they are still trying to determine who fired the fatal shot. He says it appears accidental but the D-N-R is still investigating.

Also Saturday, a 15-year-old girl fell while she was tracking a deer on private property in Grant County and accidentally shot herself in the right leg. That happened in the Town of Harrison at about noon. About three and a half hours later, Ozaukee County Sheriff's Lieutenant Cory McCormick says a man in his early 20s was accidentally shot in the foot in the Town of Fredonia. McCormick says it happened during a deer drive. His injury is not thought to be life threatening.
