NORTH HENDREN DAIRY AWARDED GRANT MONEY

Friday, November 18th, 2005 -- 1:53 PM

An area dairy will receive some state money to assist with a planned expansion. Governor Jim Doyle announced this week four Wisconsin specialty dairy processors and three local dairy groups received $140,995 in Grow Wisconsin Dairy Team grants to expand product lines, develop marketing materials and advance innovative management for dairy farms.

Among them is North Hendren Co-op near Willard. They?ll receive a $25,000 Value Chain Development Grant to assist with engineering and design for expansion of its blue cheese processing plant and other plant engineering upgrades to accommodate plant expansion.

The grants are part of a $2.4 million Value Added Dairy Initiative, which aims to strengthen the state's economy and its rural communities by increasing milk production, modernizing farms, creating new dairy enterprises and increasing specialty cheese and dairy volume.
