Cheese Output in Wisconsin Fell Below Year-Ago Levels in August

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -After seeing two consecutive months of higher production for the first time in 2020, cheese output in Wisconsin fell below year-ago levels again during August.

According to the latest dairy product summary from the USDA, the state produced 277.6 million pounds of cheese during the month. That was 1.2 percent less than last year, and a slight 0.4 percent lower than this past July. Nationally, about 1.09 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in August.

That was a 2.1 percent decrease from 2019 and 1.6 percent lower than the previous month. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 24.1 million pounds, which was down 1.3 percent from last year, but 4.5 percent higher compared to last month.
