Neillsville City Council Approves New First Ward Alderman

Thursday, September 24th, 2020 -- 9:16 AM

-The Neillsville City Council approved to fill the seat of the First Ward Alderman at their meeting on Tuesday.

The council needed to fill the seat due to the resignation of Alderman Joe Weiers. Alderman Dan Clough nominated John Perrine as First Ward Council Member for the remainder of the term. The City Attorney, Bonnie Wachsmuth, stated a second to a nomination is not needed as another nomination can be put forth and then a vote could occur. Mayor Diane Murphy called three times for further nominations. There being none, Mayor Murphy called for a roll call vote. The nomination passed with three voting yes and one abstaining. Mayor Murphy then presented the list of First Ward Council Member assignments, which includes the Committee on Finance, Illegal Tax Committee, Board of Review, Solid Waste & Recycling Committee (Chair), Board of Health, Zoning Board of Appeals (Chair), Commission on Public Works/Utilities, Planning Commission (Parks & Recreation Board Chair position), Parks and Recreation Board (Chair), Board of Cemetery Commissioners and Personnel Committee.

Mayor Murphy recommended Council Member Perrine be appointed to fill the unexpired terms of Council Member Weiers on these committees. With Perrine abstaining, the rest of the council approved the appointments. For some of the other appointments, Mayor Murphy recommended the appointment of Barb Miller as Chair of the Beautification Committee to fill the unexpired term of the former Council Member Weiers. The council approved the recommendation. Mayor Murphy then recommended the appointment of Council Member Harnisch as the Council Member on the Beautification Committee to fill the unexpired term of former Council Member Weiers. The council approved the recommendation.
