Wisconsin Potato Production Update

Wisconsin potato production totaled 28.7 million hundredweight last year, up six percent from 2018 production levels.

The latest USDA Potato Summary shows that state growers planted 71,000 acres of spuds, up 2,000 acres from the year prior. Harvested acres were reported at 70,000, up 3,000 acres from the previous season. And average yield per acre was up from 405 cwt. to 410 cwt.

Meanwhile, prices were also better last year at $10.80 cwt., up by 30-cents for the year. Total value of production of the Wisconsin potato crop was up from $285 million in 2018 to $339 million in 2019. (Wisconsin Ag Connection)
