Granton Village Board Hears Update on Dump Truck and More

Saturday, September 12th, 2020 -- 8:10 AM

-The Granton Village Board heard an update on the dump truck at their meeting on Wednesday.

According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the village received the invoice from Gross in the amount of $33,292.50. The village needs to pay for the body and deliver to Monroe for package install. Monroe is about a month out so fall delivery is still anticipated. The board also heard an update on water run off at W2978 Granton Road. The clerk contacted the DOT. They advised that the culvert that flows into the residents yard is a village culvert. Based on the flow of water, the resident could divert the water from her front yard and run a drain tile along the side of her house. The village will assist if the owner wants to try it. The board also heard an update on the Park Pond. The engineers looked at a couple of different ideas to fix the leaking dam. Worse case scenario, the concrete basin is no longer structurally sound and the metal drain pipe from the pond to the basin is rusted out. The replacement cost of a new dam is $75,000. If the concrete basin is structurally sound, the pond could be drained and someone could climb inside the basin and inspect the metal plate that runs on both sides of the basin to a depth of 14 feet.

If it’s not rusted too badly the metal plate would need to have the rust ground off of it and then new wood planks designed and installed. If the metal plates are rusted through, new plates would have to be re-designed and installed before the planks could be installed. Brainstorming ideas included filling in the dam and running an overflow culvert to the ditch but the engineers cautioned not to compromise the pond’s retaining walls. An above ground spillway was discussed but that option would not allow the village to drain the pond. After lengthy discussions, the board decided that the temporary fix is currently holding. Due to the costs and funding options, the board decided to continue to monitor the pond throughout the winter, hope it holds and re-look at the options in spring.
