Marshfield Alderman Hear Report on Utility Services

Wednesday, August 26th, 2020 -- 9:27 AM

(WDLB) -Customers of Marshfield's public power utility get a great product in return for their monthly charges.

That was part of the message from Marshfield Utilities officials, to members of the city's Common Council last night. General Manager Nick Kumm presented a video featuring facts and figures on how the publicly-owned utility saves customers millions of dollars over those utilities which are privately-owned or run by cooperatives. Mike Eberl and John Schneider, both members of the city's Utility Commission, also appeared in the video. Eberl said his residence and business both enjoy some of the lowest utility rates in the state.

Schneider moved to Marshfield from Greenwood in 2008, and has served on the Commission the past two years. He noted he's got a home in Marshfield running on public power, and a cabin in the Wisconsin Rapids area serviced by a cooperative. Kumm also presented the Council with a check for more than two-million dollars, representing the utility's annual dividend payment to the city, and its annual payment in lieu of taxes.
