The Granton Village Board Discussed a Leak in the Park Pond

Tuesday, August 18th, 2020 -- 12:17 PM

-The Granton Village Board discussed a leak in the Park Pond at their meeting last week.

According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the Park Pond began losing water several weeks ago. The initial thought was that muskrats had burrowed from the pond to the ditch and that water was leaking from the pond. As the water continued to drain from the pond, it became evident that the problem was much bigger. The pond’s overflow system was failing and the pond was being drained. The village worked with Cooper Engineering to temporarily stop the water flow but the pond level is down over 2 feet. Cooper Engineering did a quick analysis and they believe the cost to replace the overflow system will top 10,000. The grant team advised that due to the time sensitivity of the project, applying for grants would not be possible. The grant writing team suggested contacting the County Conservation team. They received $3,271 for county projects and perhaps they still have money available.

The clerk will also reach out to the Listeman Foundation to see if there is any assistance they can lend. The board also discussed speeding on County Road K. A resident outlined a map identifying where speed limit signs were located on County Road K and some ideas on increasing the number of signs. The board will look into suggestions and review the posted signs. The board also revisited the option of purchasing a solar radar sign and approved purchasing a sign. The clerk will contact Neillsville for information on their sign. The board also heard a presentation on the financial statement for the First Responders. The village received a tour of their ambulance and they outlined the work they perform for the local area. The First Responders are funded by the local townships and the village budgeted $1500 this year.
