AREA COLLEGE CAMPUSES UNITE

Monday, October 17th, 2005 -- 9:06 AM

Three central Wisconsin University campuses have formed a regional partnership they hope will make it easier for area students to attain their Bachelor?s Degree.

The Universities of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Marathon County and Marshfield/Wood County have formed the UW Central Wisconsin Connection, a collaboration intended to ease the transfer from the two-year Colleges to UWSP.

UW-Marshfield/Wood County Campus Executive Officer and Dean Andy Keogh (keel) explains the collaboration will admit qualifying students from the two-year campuses to UWSP, giving them access to career and academic advising at both campuses.

"Instead of coming here and then going there, you'd come here and start there at the same time," Keogh says.

The effort should eliminate students taking unnecessary classes.

"For those students that are certain of what they really want to do, this is a way to give them a headstart on an academic program at a comprehensive university," Keogh says.

But students won?t be automatically enrolled at UW-SP just by enrolling in Marshfield. They?ll have to indicate their interest to continue at Point after two years and meet Point?s requirements, which may be stricter than Marshfield?s.

All elements of the plan will be in full force by the fall of 2006.
