Wednesday, August 5th, 2020 -- 8:01 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin cheese plants made more product during June when compared to the same month a year earlier, making it the first time in the past six months that year-to-year output rose.

According to the latest dairy product summary from the USDA, the state produced 281.5 million pounds of cheese in June. That was 1.0 percent more than last year, and a slight 0.8 percent higher than this past May, even though that month had more days on the calendar. Nationally, about 1.1 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in June.

That was a 3.5 percent increase from 2019, and a fractional 0.3 percent hike compared to the amount manufactured during the previous month. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 25.8 million pounds, which was down 0.6 percent from last year, and 3.8 percent lower compared to last month.
