Owen-Withee School Board Discusses Employment Matters and More

Sunday, July 19th, 2020 -- 8:04 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board discussed the hiring of a new Elementary Special Ed Teacher at their meeting on Monday.

The board unanimously approved the hire of Raeann Schwab to replace Barby Serocki in the Special Education staff. Raeann will be in the elementary school, with Randi Rondorf moving to the middle school. District Administrator Bob Houts shared with the board that DPI state aid estimates show that the District will receive $293,015 more in state aid in 2020-21 that last year. This is a 9.25% increase. While this is great news as far as property taxes are concerned, it, by itself, doesn’t increase what their revenue limit allows them to spend.

Revenue Limit, or what they can spend, is state aid plus property taxes. If state aid increases but the revenue limit doesn’t, the result is a drop in property taxes. More pieces to the revenue limit will be put into place in late summer/early fall. Finally, it was stated the Policy Committee needs to meet prior to the August meeting to look at rewriting policies to bring the district in alignment with the Title IX regulations put out by the US Department of Education.
