CLARK COUNTY COULD SEND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR TO HURRICANE ZONE

Monday, September 26th, 2005 -- 3:19 PM

Clark County?s Emergency Management Director may be headed south to help with hurricane relief. The Law Enforcement Committee recently approved a motion allowing Jennifer Lord-Kouraichi to register for the Emergency Management Responder list.

"It's organized through the Emergency Management Assitance Compact, which is done between the states," Lord-Kouraichi explains. "The state can make a request and send to Wisconsin and Wisconsin can fill the request if they have the resources necessary."

Emergency management directors have been serving two-week tours-of-duty.

"All my salaries, wages and benefits would be paid by the federal government for that period."

Currently, three county Emergency Management Directors from Wisconsin are serving in the area affected by Hurricane Katrina. Lord-Kouraichi recently heard from one of them who said the TV "doesn't do the disaster justice".

If Lord-Kouraichi is called, it will likely be sometime after mid-October.
