Wisconsin FFA Online Convention Underway, Granton Receives Award During Opening Ceremony

Tuesday, July 7th, 2020 -- 9:13 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Despite a pandemic getting in the way, the state's premier agriculture education group has seen more growth during the past school year.

During the kick-off of the Wisconsin FFA Online Convention on Monday, the state officer team announced that 21,264 students joined the FFA during the 2019-20 school year. That's over one percent more than the 20,800 who enrolled during the prior membership year. Specific membership honors went to the Waupun FFA, which is the state's largest chapter with 437 members. Bruce had the greatest one-year increase in membership with 78 new students joining. And Granton had the highest-percentage of students in its high school population to join FFA. Also on Monday, the Waupaca FFA was named the winner of the Food for America award. And Hannah Newsome from Waupaca earned the highest ranking in the Middle School Essay contest.

Meanwhile, Tuesday will be another busy day for the virtual convention as the winners of the state proficiency awards will be announced. State officers Grace Morrissey and Emily Sheehan will deliver their retiring addresses. And viewers will be motivated with an address by National FFA President Kolesen McCoy.
