Greenwood School Board Approves Next School Year Start Date of September 1st

-The Greenwood School Board approved the start date for the next school year at a Special School Board meeting on Monday.

Before they made the decision, they heard concerns, questions and comments from several community members including will the district be testing the staff and students for COVID-19; concerns about type of testing, supports reasonable measures, against early start, try to get back to normal as much as possible, take things serious but not overreact; concerned about more virtual learning, many students struggled creating wider gap, use common sense measures; kids need to be in school, socialization, any thoughts about using other buildings to help with physical distancing; mixed feelings about starting early, will we be ready 2 weeks early; concerned about internet access if need to go virtual again, concerned about being ready to start early; and could district offer summer school the weeks in August.

After hearing the comments, the board reviewed the results of the Parent Survey regarding school starting again and when. They then had a discussion on starting school on September 1st or earlier on August 17th. In the end, the board approved the start of school on September 1st. In other matters, the board accepted the resignation of Jenny Halopka as a Special Education Assistant and they approved the employment of Kelsey Hoverson as a Special Education teacher and Taylor Knoeck as a Kindergarten teacher.
