Former Colby High School Secretary Sentenced for Stealing Money and Changing Grades

Friday, June 26th, 2020 -- 10:13 AM

-A former Colby High School secretary has been sentenced for hacking into school accounts to steal and pay back money and change letter grades for a student.

According to prosecutors, from February of 2018 to January of last year, Lisa Steen used a school credit card to pay for multiple bills and then deposited money into the account to pay some of it back. The amount totaled more than $7,000. Steen is also accused of using another district employee’s login credentials to change a student's grade so they were higher in class rank and could receive scholarship money.

Steen was found guilty of misconduct in office and two counts of theft of a business setting. Several other charges were dismissed and read in. She was sentenced to 40 hours of community service and 3 years of probation.
