NEILLSVILLE MAN DIES IN ACCIDENT

Friday, September 16th, 2005 -- 2:47 PM

The Chairman of the Town of Pine Valley has been killed in a motorcycle accident. According to the Clark County Sheriff?s Department, 48-year old David Lewis died this morning when the motorcycle he was operating struck a deer and then a vehicle. The preliminary investigation indicates Lewis was northbound on Highway 73, just south of Schofield Rd., north of Neillsville. Lewis struck a deer that sent him veering into the southbound lane of traffic where he collided with a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Sheila Briski of Withee. Here vehicle then entered the east ditch. No one in her vehicle was injured. Investigators believe Lewis was killed instantly. The crash occurred just after 5:30 a.m. this morning. This is the 4th traffic fatality in Clark County this year.

Other area community leaders are expressing their sympathy and sadness at Lewis? passing. Grant Town Chair Ron Garbisch tells WCCN he was just talking with Lewis last night at a Fire Board meeting. He credits Lewis for working with the Town of Grant to get Granton Road paved from Neillsville to Granton. Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy said she had worked with Lewis on many projects and the city?s working relationship with the Town of Pine Valley improved with him as chairman. Lewis had served on Murphy?s Transportation Committee. She extended sympathy to his family on behalf of the City of Neillsville.
