NEILLSVILLE TO GET AIRPORT MONEY

Friday, September 16th, 2005 -- 2:46 PM

Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $105,000 project to purchase snow removal equipment at the Neillsville Municipal Airport. The action releases $3,598 in state funds to help purchase the equipment. The city of Neillsville is contributing $3,599, and the Federal Aviation Administration will provide the remaining $97,803. The four-wheel-drive multi-directional tractor, expected to be delivered this fall, can be equipped with blower, loader or blade attachments to help keep the airport's 3,400-foot paved runway and other pavements clear of snow and ice. The airport's existing snow removal equipment is aging, requiring costly and frequent repairs. Through a competitive bidding process, WisDOT helped procure snow removal equipment for Neillsville Municipal and several other Wisconsin airports as a single package in an effort to hold down costs. Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy said the money will help improve an already strong airport. She said the airport has been ? and likely will be ? important to luring new business to the area.

Aside from this $105,000, Neillsville also received a $100,000 Brownfield Grant to help clean up the old Foundry property and have applied for a $650,000 community development block grant for home repair loans.
