Over 6,600 Apply for Farm Support Program

Friday, June 19th, 2020 -- 9:18 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The number of farmers applying for the state's Farm Support Program each day are ranging in the thousands.

State Agriculture Secretary-designee Randy Romanski said that as of Thursday morning, nearly 6,600 online applications were submitted to the Department of Revenue's website. A total of $50 million is available to support Wisconsin farmers in the form of direct payments if they suffered losses due to COVID-19. Individual payments will range from $1,000 to $3,500 and will be issued after the application period closes on June 29. Wisconsin farmers who had a gross income between $35,000 and $5,000,000 in 2019 may be eligible to receive a payment.

Farmers are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to leave time for resolving any potential issues in their application. Farmers who cannot apply online, as well as Spanish- and Hmong-speaking farmers, should request assistance by calling DOR at 608-266-2772.
