Granton Village Board Update

Saturday, June 13th, 2020 -- 6:44 AM

The Granton Village Board heard an update on Fall Fest at their meeting on Wednesday.

According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the Fall Fest committee postponed the decision to proceed or cancel Fall Fest until July. Also, the condition of Home Run Road was discussed. The board agreed that Red Granite needs to be placed over the current stone, so granite will be ordered. The board also heard the Phosphorus Compliance Update. A company Rep from Neo stopped by to tell them about a new chemical called RE-300. The board watched a 3 minute video outlining the chemical compound and how it reacts with Phosphorus. In a nutshell, this chemical will reduce the Phosphorus levels and the sludge in their pond for $6,430. If this chemical works as they state, the village will not need to pay fines to the DNR, will not need to pay other counties in their efforts to reduce phosphorus and they will not need to hire engineers to facilitate alternatives. NEO guarantees the results or they will buy back the chemicals. The only cost left for the village would be the $500 cost of the pump. The board approved to give the RE-300 a try and to postpone their contract with Cooper Engineering until the one year trial completion.

Also, a Town of Grant resident, living on Romadka Ave, was told by the Town of Grant Chairman to contact the village with her request to have a sign placed on the road alerting drivers that there is a “hard of hearing” child ahead. Romadka is a boundary road and maintenance for this section is assigned to the village. Signage is clearly not road maintenance and has nothing to do with snow removal, grading, mowing, etc. This is a special request by a resident for assistance in keeping a child safe. The Village Board agreed unanimously to help the Grant resident protect her child and simply order the signs she is requesting.

The board also heard the President’s Report. Two board members attended the United Community meeting. Both John Ross and Sheila Nyberg spoke about the virus and issues they are facing as well as outlining some of the assistance that is available. Finally, they heard the Library Update. The library opened to the public on June 8th, but there are guidelines.
