Owen-Withee School Board Discusses Returning to School in the Fall

Thursday, June 11th, 2020 -- 9:18 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board approved reducing an employee contract at their special meeting at the end of May.

The board voted to approve a request from Ms. Kodl to reduce her contract to 75%. Ms. Kodl will retain her teaching duties but relinquish her Director of Technology duties. After much discussion, the board voted to approve the following resolution: Be it resolved that in the absence of direct laws, rules or guidance regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the School District of Owen-Withee Will make local decisions on school buildings/grounds, gatherings of large groups and the reopening of school after consideration of guidelines from the CDC, WI DHS and the Clark County Health Department.

The board also began the discussion of ideas of setting priorities for return to school in the fall. A document from the DPI, “Interim COVID-19 Infection Control and Mitigation Measures for Schools,” was distributed and discussed. District Administrator Bob Houts introduced the idea of a committee of stakeholders to create a variety of plans to prepare for the opening of school. The board was cool to the idea. They would like to start with a survey of teachers regarding what worked well and what needs to be improved in the online teaching/learning process. A survey was created and completed so results can be presented to the board.
