77.3% of Marshfield Residents Respond to Census

Wednesday, June 10th, 2020 -- 8:46 AM

(WDLB) -Marshfield residents have responded well to the 2020 U.S. Census. City Administrator Steve Barg told the Common Council last night that 77-point-three percent of the city's residents have sent their forms back to the Census Bureau.

Barg noted that Wisconsin's response rate is 67-point-nine percent, while the national rate is just 60-point-eight percent. The COVID-19 pandemic slowed the census count in April and May. Just this week, the U.S. Census Bureau began a phased restart of some field operations. Census takers will now be going door-to-door between August and October, and the final count will probably not be going to the president's desk until sometime in April or May of next year.

The Census tries to count every person living in the country, plus five U.S. territories. Residents can respond by telephone, by mail or online. The U.S. Census has been conducted every 10 years since 1790, and this year's is the 24th nationwide count.
