Marshfield to Reopen Facilities and Services Next Week

Wednesday, May 27th, 2020 -- 10:31 AM

(WDLB) -The city of Marshfield will reopen its facilities and services next week, under a plan endorsed by the Common Council last night.

Aldermen voted 6-4 in favor of a motion from Rebecca Spiros to reopen June 1. She said her plan gives people a choice as to whether they feel comfortable resuming their normal activities. Under a piece-meal approach presented by City Administrator Steve Barg, some city facilities - such as playgrounds and athletic fields - would have opened up today, while places like City Hall, Wildwood Zoo and the 2nd Street Community Center would have opened up on June 1. Certain facilities, like the library and the police and fire departments, operate under their own boards and commissions, and therefore will open sooner.

At the police department, there is still lobby access, but no tours. The library will reopen on Friday, but with limitations. Director Lori Belongia says the facility will close for cleaning during the noon and four o'clock hours. As for Hefko Pool, there is some debate and uncertainty as to whether that facility will open at all this summer. City officials may decide to bump up construction of a new aquatic center, depending on the success of ongoing private fundraising, which has reached 85-percent of its goal.
