Loyal School Board Hears Administrators' Reports

Tuesday, May 26th, 2020 -- 9:08 AM

-The Loyal School Board heard the Administrators’ Report at their meeting last week.

Interim Superintendent Mark Lacke stated that the district plans to continue the present procedures for bag breakfast/lunches until June 5th. For the rest of June, bags may be shifted to pick up at school only. Extension into other summer months will be a wait & see. Keeping meals refrigerated when the outside temperatures rise is a big concern. Elementary Principal Nancy Popp described plans for exchanging materials to & from families during the 1st week of June, expressed hopes for a short summer school in late July or early August, and options for the fall school opening are being studied. Principal Chris Lindner reviewed all the activities, many virtual, involved in graduation during the school closure, Driver’s Ed is set to start June 8th and he extended a thank you to the food service crew for all their work. It has been well received by students, families and the Loyal community.

Mr. Lacke also talked about the end of the school year. The principals have been working on the plan to gather student items left behind, then get materials back from parents June 1st-3rd. Their hope is that this goes smoothly because buying replacement textbooks, laptops, etc. is not desirable. The format of the board meeting was irregular; just like everything else lately. As superintendent following an election, Mr. Lacke needed to open the meeting because board officers are appointed shortly afterwards as the first agenda item. Jen Kadolph, the new president, then took over with the reorganization of annual assignments. They had two hearings for DPI waivers of State statutes because of COVID-19.
