Committee and Public Works Report at Neillsville City Council

-The Neillsville City Council heard the Public Works Report at their meeting on Monday.The usual amount of work was done in the city including cemetery and parks maintenance, equipment maintenance, hauling brush and compost, street sweeping and more. The council also heard the various Committee Reports. They heard the Police and Fire Commission report from May 5th. They had a closed session on interviewing a candidate for a part-time officer position and then extended a conditional offer of employment to Chris Kile pending successful completion of testing. They also had a discussion on cancelling the 2020 Heritage Days event. The council also heard the Heritage Days Committee Report from May 7th. They heard a financial report, had a discussion on cancellation of the 2020 Heritage Days event, had a discussion on the Miss Neillsville Queen coronation and had a discussion on, and removal of, Daniel Herbrand as a signer on the Heritage Days checkbook. The Council also heard the Economic Development Commission Report from May 13th. They received an email announcing that 3M is partnering with Cummins to produce 3M designed high efficiency particulate filters for use in 3M’s powered air purifying respirators; Cummins will be using existing equipment used to produce diesel engine filters; PAPRs are used by front-line health care workers and 2 million filters will be made by the end of 2020. Neillsville is the only plant making them.
Also, discussion was held on a grant program for local businesses who have closed or are struggling during this state-wide COVID-19 shutdown and they had a closed session on an economic development loan request from BMAA Enterprises, LLC, but no action was taken. They also heard the Board of Review Report from May 18th. They heard about the examination of the City’s 2020 Assessment Roll for errors and omissions and to hear assessment objections. Also, no property owners appeared in objection to their assessment and they held a discussion on and recommendation to do a full city-wide revaluation assessment in 2021. They also heard the Personnel Committee Report from May 18th. This was the meeting that approved to place all the other part-time employee applicants as presented in a pool for the Cemetery, Parks, Public Works and Recreation Departments to draw from as needed. The Applicants are: Issaac Balderas, Andrew Brown, Samantha Cappardora, Christopher Cortez, Catrina Craig, Abbigail Elmhorst, Luke Reinhardt, Art Stiemke and Josiah Ziebell.
