Administrators' Reports at Owen-Withee School Board Meeting

Monday, May 18th, 2020 -- 10:49 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board heard the Administrators’ Reports at their meeting last week.

Elementary Principal Lance Batchelor reported on the pick-up of student personal items left behind. He also discussed the tentative class lists for the 2020-21 school year that were due back to him by Friday, May, 15th. High School Principal Julie Van Ark reported on the Virtual Senior Banquet being planned for release on Wednesday, May 20th. She provided a special thanks to Mrs. Mueller and Mr. Gutsch for their work on this project. The serving of meals is still a popular thing in the community. Last Tuesday set a record with 339 breakfasts and 339 lunches being served/delivered. Kudos to the food service staff for going above and beyond to help the kids. They continue to receive donations of food to handout as well including from WOW meals, FFA Alumni, Curds for Kids, Hornet Milk Drive and individual families have all helped. She thanked all involved. Finally, the City of Owen and the Village of Withee approached them about hanging banners of the seniors on both main streets.

They put together a fundraiser and the goal was met. The banners will be printed and put up soon. Finally, District Administrator Bob Houts reviewed an article about the possible funding crisis in next year’s state budget. While this could have a profound impact on their budget for 2020-21, there are too many unknowns at this point. Will we bounce back? Will the federal government provide stimulus money to the states? Will the feds provide stimulus funds to the schools? Will the state do a budget repair bill before the November election, etc.? Once some of the questions get answered, they will have a clearer picture of where the district budget will fall. He also stated that he would like to increase the time of their Director of Special Education, Deb Delyea, to better serve the needs of the District. He will be bringing forward a proposal at the next board meeting.
