Owen-Withee School Board Takes Care of Organizational Matters

Friday, May 15th, 2020 -- 11:08 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board took care of organizational matters at their meeting on Monday.

Each year the board “reorganizes” itself by electing officers after the April election. The 2020-21 officers are Julie Wendler as President, Rick Eloranta as Vice-President, Angela Greschner as Clerk and Kim Amacher Treasurer. Rick Eloranta as the WASB Delegate was tabled until later in the year to determine who will attend the Annual Convention in June. For committee assignments, President Julie Wendler left the 2020-21 committee assignments as they were in 2019-20. District Administrator Bob Houts provided an update to the board on the district’s closure due to the coronavirus. (Please note, that at the time of the meeting, the state supreme court had not made a decision on the Safer at Home Order.) Mr. Houts reported that there isn’t much new to report. The Supreme Court has yet to rule on the lawsuit challenging the Governor’s Safer at Home order extension.

So, they are still closed through June 30. He stated that he’s not hearing much positive in the way of being able to meet face-to-face in groups after that and through the rest of the summer. The start of school is also going to look a lot different than it has in the past. Prevailing “wisdom” is that they may open on time, but that groups (class size) may be limited to 10 students. If that is true, they may have to look at a modified schedule of every other day or something like that. However, he stressed that this is only speculation at this point. They will have to continue to wait until they get some clear direction from the state and health departments.
