COVID-19 Pandemic Update for the Afternoon of May 14th: No More Safer at Home; Clark County Asks Residents to Follow Previous G

Thursday, May 14th, 2020 -- 2:43 PM

COVID-19 Update
May 14th, Afternoon

We have a COVID-19 update for you this afternoon.

Taking a look at the updated state numbers, the state has 122,598 negative tests, 11,275 positive cases (an increase of 373 over yesterday) and 434 deaths, an increase of 13 over yesterday. Of the positive cases, 1,939, or 17%, have been hospitalized. Clark County has 25 positive and 411 negative. For our neighboring counties, Chippewa has 33 positive and 1,597 negative, Eau Claire has 63 positive and 3,170 negative, Jackson has 15 positive and 580 negative, Wood has 5 positive and 1,094 negative, Marathon has 29 positive and 1,335 negative and Taylor still has no positive cases and 185 negative. Clark County has had 4 people die from the coronavirus. Marathon and Jackson Counties have had one person die due to the coronavirus.

On Wednesday, May 13, 2020, the WI Supreme Court overturned the state’s Safer at Home Order. With this ruling, businesses now have the right to be open. Although the Safer at Home Order is gone, the virus remains. In an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19, we are respectfully requesting that Clark County residents, businesses, and other entities voluntarily follow safe social distancing practices. Businesses have an important role in protecting their customers, employees, and the community. Local, state, and national resources are available to help businesses adopt best practices.

Please be aware that guidelines may change in the upcoming days or weeks. Should any new information become available, we will keep the public informed. The health and safety of all community members remains our highest priority. The CCHD continues to isolate and conduct investigations with individuals who test positive for COVID-19 and implement quarantine measures for any close contacts. Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.
