COVID-19 Pandemic Update for the Afternoon of May 12th: Another Decline in Positive Cases

Tuesday, May 12th, 2020 -- 2:04 PM

COVID-19 Update
May 12th, Afternoon

We have a COVID-19 update for you this afternoon.

Taking a look at the updated state numbers, the state has 112,748 negative tests, 10,611 positive cases (an increase of 193 over yesterday) and 418 deaths, an increase of 9 over yesterday. Of the positive cases, 1,877, or 18%, have been hospitalized. Clark County has 24 positive and 369 negative. For our neighboring counties, Chippewa has 31 positive and 1,418 negative, Eau Claire has 60 positive and 2,729 negative, Jackson has 14 positive and 526 negative, Wood has 4 positive and 1,005 negative, Marathon has 25 positive and 1,223 negative and Taylor still has no positive cases and 168 negative. Clark County has had 4 people die from the coronavirus. Marathon and Jackson Counties have had one person die due to the coronavirus.

Just a reminder, Wisconsin is now allowing stand alone or stores based in strip malls with outdoor entrances to allow in person shopping up to 5 people as long as they follow social distancing guidelines, practice good personal hygiene and follow recommendations of the CDC and health officials for operating a business during this pandemic. Wisconsin was able to hit one of the metrics in their Badger Bounce Back Program to allow this change. It is, obviously, geared toward small businesses as opposed to large stores like Kohl’s. This new order still does not allow places like barbershops/salons and bars and restaurants to open.

Again, Wisconsin’s “Safer at Home” order asks all residents to avoid unnecessary travel. You can still go to the grocery store or pharmacy, get gas, get dinner from a local business, work in the yard, walk the dog, ride a bike, etc.; just practice social distancing when you do so. If there’s anything we can do at Central Wisconsin Broadcasting to help, please reach out. We have many resources available to you on our website and Facebook page and we’re happy to answer your questions. If we can’t, we can put you in touch with someone that can. But above all, continue to follow health expert guidelines.
