COVID-19 Pandemic Update for the Afternoon of May 11th: Another Turn of the Dial

Monday, May 11th, 2020 -- 2:05 PM

COVID-19 Update
May 11th, Afternoon

We have a COVID-19 update for you this afternoon.

Taking a look at the updated state numbers, the state has 108,033 negative tests, 10,418 positive cases (an increase of 199 over yesterday) and 409 deaths, an increase of 9 over yesterday. Of the positive cases, 1,846, or 18%, have been hospitalized. Clark County has 24 positive and 359 negative. For our neighboring counties, Chippewa has 30 positive and 1,395 negative, Eau Claire has 57 positive and 2,601 negative, Jackson has 14 positive and 510 negative, Wood has 4 positive and 923 negative, Marathon has 25 positive and 1,168 negative and Taylor still has no positive cases and 161 negative. Clark County has had 4 people die from the coronavirus. Marathon and Jackson Counties have had one person die due to the coronavirus.

During the press conference by the governor and health officials today, it was stated that they have signed an order allowing another turn of the dial. This new order allows stand alone or stores based in strip malls to allow in person shopping up to 5 people as long as they follow social distancing guidelines, practice good personal hygiene and follow recommendations of the CDC and health officials for operating a business during this pandemic. Wisconsin was able to hit one of the metrics in their Badger Bounce Back Program to allow this change. It is, obviously, geared toward small businesses as opposed to large stores like Kohl’s. This new order still does not allow places like barbershops/salons and bars and restaurants to open. It was stated that they started with this turn of the dial due to meeting the metric and they will monitor it. If it goes well, they can turn it more. They stated that social distancing is working as is Safer at Home. They also mentioned the testing being done around the state.

Again, Wisconsin’s “Safer at Home” order asks all residents to avoid unnecessary travel. You can still go to the grocery store or pharmacy, get gas, get dinner from a local business, work in the yard, walk the dog, ride a bike, etc.; just practice social distancing when you do so. If there’s anything we can do at Central Wisconsin Broadcasting to help, please reach out. We have many resources available to you on our website and Facebook page and we’re happy to answer your questions. If we can’t, we can put you in touch with someone that can. But above all, continue to follow health expert guidelines.
