Wisconsin's Tart Cherry Production Down in 2019

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin tart cherry production totaled 9.1 million pounds in 2019, down 17 percent from 2018 levels, according to the USDA's Noncitrus Fruits and Nuts Summary.The state's growers harvested 1,600 acres, which was up by 100 acres from last year. But average yield per acre, at 5,700 pounds, was down from 7,270 pounds a year earlier. The overall average price fell from 19.3 cents per pound in 2018 to 10.9 cents per pound in 2019.
The value of Wisconsin's tart cherry crop totaled $934,000 last year. Processed cherries accounted for 97 percent of the state's crop.
