Wisconsin Cheese Plants Produce Less Cheese in March Compared to Last Year

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin cheese plants made less product during March when compared to the same month a year earlier.According to the latest dairy product summary from the USDA, the state produced 288.3 million pounds of cheese in March. That was 1.7 percent less than last year, but 10.4 percent more than this past February, which had less days on the calendar. Nationally, about 1.12 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in March. That was a 0.2 percent increase over 2019, and 9.0 percent higher than the 1.03 billion manufactured during the previous month.
Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 25.1 million pounds, which was up 1.9 percent from last year, and 8.2 percent more compared to last month.
