COVID-19 Pandemic Update for the Afternoon of May 4th: Increased Testing Capacity

Monday, May 4th, 2020 -- 2:08 PM

COVID-19 Update
May 4th, Afternoon

We have a COVID-19 update for you this afternoon.

Taking a look at the updated state numbers, the state has 80,467 negative tests, 8,236 positive cases (an increase of 272 over yesterday) and 340 deaths, an increase of 1 over yesterday. Of the positive cases, 1,621, or 20%, have been hospitalized. Clark County has 21 positive and 259 negative. For our neighboring counties, Chippewa has 25 positive and 1,118 negative, Eau Claire has 41 positive and 2,130 negative, Jackson has 12 positive and 373 negative, Wood has 2 positive and 539 negative, Marathon has 19 positive and 844 negative and Taylor still has no positive cases and 127 negative. Clark County has had 4 people die from the coronavirus. Marathon and Jackson Counties have had one person die due to the coronavirus.

During the state’s press conference today, they stressed the importance of having healthcare professionals and facilities hang on to their PPE, like the N95 masks, as the state has increased capacity to sterilize that equipment so they can use it again. However, they did state that it doesn’t replace the need for more supplies from the federal government. The state also continues to increase the amount of testing that can be done daily and weekly. Some of that includes the drive through testing that will be coming to multiple counties in the state including here in Clark County in Thorp on May 13th. And you can find more information on that on our website and Facebook page. They also heard from a dialysis nurse who talked about the difficulty their facility and patients face receiving their care during this pandemic.

Again, Wisconsin’s “Safer at Home” order, asks all residents to avoid unnecessary travel. You can still go to the grocery store or pharmacy, get gas, get dinner from a local business, work in the yard, walk the dog, ride a bike, etc.; just practice social distancing when you do so. If there’s anything we can do at Central Wisconsin Broadcasting to help, please reach out. We have many resources available to you on our website and Facebook page and we’re happy to answer your questions. If we can’t, we can put you in touch with someone that can. But above all, continue to follow health expert guidelines.
