Lower Milk Prices in March

Friday, May 1st, 2020 -- 8:40 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -It appears milk prices were starting to slide just when the novel coronavirus began working its way into the United States.

According to the latest USDA Agricultural Prices report, the Wisconsin all milk price for March was $18.10 per hundredweight, $1.00 lower than last month, but still 80-cents higher than last year. The U.S. all milk price was $18.00 per cwt., a dime less than Wisconsin's price and 90-cents lower than last month's U.S. price. All of the 24 major milk producing states except Florida had a lower price when compared with February. Meanwhile, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.20 per pound on April 30, while barrels were $1.19 per pound.

The CME butter price was $1.19 per pound. For the week ending April 25, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.22 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.09 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $1.12 per pound.
