Spencer Looking Into Creating Public Gun and Archery Range

Thursday, April 16th, 2020 -- 9:19 AM

(Hub City Times) -The village of Spencer is looking into creating a public gun and archery range in the town of Spencer.

“The Village of Spencer is in the early stages of discussion with the Township of Spencer to look into opening a Public Gun and Archery Range,” said Spencer Village Administrator Paul Hensch. “The Township owns a five-acre parcel located at 106263 County Highway C. This parcel used to be the solid waste dump for both the Township and the Village. It was closed in the early 1970s.” The village will ask that Marathon County rezone the parcel to allow for the gun and archery range. “We will also need to conduct a floodplain study due to the parcel’s proximity to the Little Eau Pleine River,” Hensch added.

The village is looking to create partnerships with the Department of Natural Resources and the National Rifle Association, along with local gun and sportsmen’s clubs, to assist with funding. “Next steps are the zoning and the flood plain study. They has not been any cost as of yet. Our hope is that any costs get off set with donations from the funding groups,” Hensch explained. For more information, contact Hensch at 715-659-5423.
