Neillsville School Board Approves Student Insurance for Next School Year

Tuesday, April 7th, 2020 -- 9:33 AM

-The Neillsville School Board approved a few items at their meeting on Monday.

In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak and school closures because of it, the Neillsville School Board has been holding meetings more frequently in case items affecting the school due to the virus need to be dealt with sooner than their usual once a month meeting. At yesterday’s meeting, a couple agenda items, regarding bus bids and a health services contract weren’t ready at that time, so no action was taken. The board did approve First Agency for their student insurance for the 2020-21 school year. The price is the same as last year and the cost has been down overall the past couple years. It’s an 80/20 split and acts and secondary insurance. The district usually has a few claims every year and they already have a few claims this year. The board also approved a bid for sound system equipment.

The district needs new microphones because they need to reduce the bandwidth of the frequency they use for their current microphones. They asked for a bid for 14 new microphones. The district’s old microphones can be turned in for a rebate, with the district receiving around $1,000. The district received two bids. One was from Full Compass Systems Limited for $12,163.20 and the other was from SOS (Speed of Sound) for $13,650. In the end, the board approved the lower bid from Full Compass, but one board member did vote no stating that she’s worked with SOS in the past and they’ve provided really good service. She felt the extra cost with SOS would be worth it due to their customer service.
