Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northcentral Wisconsin Looking to Gain Adult Volunteers

Monday, April 6th, 2020 -- 8:45 AM

-Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northcentral Wisconsin is looking to gain adult volunteers, or “Bigs” to mentor a child in one of their program areas: School Based or Community Based.

In School Based mentoring, Bigs and Littles can enjoy time together right at the child’s school. These matches have the opportunity to utilize school resources like playground equipment, games and the library. Matches that choose to meet in the Community Based mentoring have the ability to broaden their horizons and experience activities that the greater Abbotsford area has to offer including the Abbotsford Public Library, Red Arrow Park and other local attractions. No matter the venue, all that matters is the quality time spent together. Littles who participate in the program are typically referred to them by their teacher or school guidance counselor. They are identified as a child who could benefit socially, emotionally or educationally from having an additional source of support. As a Big, you will be a consistent, stable presence in the child’s life, offering encouragement, guidance and friendship.

Individuals who want to become a “Big” will apply, go through orientation and interview and then by teamed up with a Little with similar interests. During the orientation, Big Brothers, Big Sisters staff will share more about the program and what to expect while working with you Little. Once you’re matched with a Little Brother or Little Sister, Big Brothers, Big Sisters will continue to offer support, providing a professional staff member who will help the Big and Little grow together in friendship. If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Beth Kohnert at [email protected] or call 715-848-7207. Apply today at bbbsncw.org and become a defender of potential.
