Wisconsin Cheese Plants Make Less Product In February

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Even with the extra leap day, Wisconsin cheese plants still made less product during February when compared to the same month a year earlier.

According to the latest dairy product summary from the USDA, the state produced 260.5 million pounds of cheese in February. That was 0.2 percent less than last year and 6.0 percent lower than this past January. Nationally, about 1.03 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in February.

That was a 3.7 percent increase over 2019, but 7.4 percent lower than the 1.10 billion manufactured during the previous month. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 23.2 million pounds, which was up 13.6 percent from last year, but 6.7 percent less compared to last month.
