COVID-19 Pandemic Update for the Afternoon of April 2nd: State Numbers Indicate 6th Positive Case in Clark County

Thursday, April 2nd, 2020 -- 2:09 PM

COVID-19 Update
April 2nd, Afternoon

We have a COVID-19 update for you this afternoon.

Taking a look at the state numbers as of this afternoon, the state has 20,317 negative tests, 1,730 positive cases and 31 deaths. Of the positive cases, 461, or 27%, have been hospitalized. State numbers indicate that Clark County now has 6 positive cases and 60 negative. We haven't heard from the Clark County Health Department on the 6th case yet, but we will update you when we do. For our neighboring counties, Chippewa has 11 positive cases and 270 negative cases, Eau Claire has 14 positive cases and 563 negative, Jackson has 2 positive and 58 negative, Wood has 2 positive and 184 negative, Marathon has 8 positive and 237 negative and Taylor still has no positive cases and 39 negative.

Just a reminder, the Clark County Economic Development Corporation is asking residents to fill out a survey to measure the economic loss and to assist in future recovery efforts, as this COVID-19 pandemic plays out across Wisconsin. They survey can be found at uwo.sh/covid-19-econ-disruption or you can find it on our website and Facebook page.

Also, even with the coronavirus outbreak, the April 7th Elections are still scheduled, but many Wisconsin municipalities are in desperate need of poll workers. According to the Wisconsin Elections Commission, the state has 108 municipalities out of 850 that have critical shortages. There are four categories when it comes to shortages and they are critical, concerning, serious and stable. Clark County currently has 12 municipalities that fall into the critical category. If you’re interested in becoming a poll worker, please contact your local clerk.

Again, Wisconsin is under a “Safer at Home” order, which askses all residents to avoid unnecessary travel. You can still go to the grocery store or pharmacy, get gas, get dinner from a local business, work in the yard, walk the dog, ride a bike, etc.; just practice social distancing when you do so.

Again, just a reminder, please be aware of all the scams that are making the rounds due to the coronavirus pandemic. If you receive a call from someone stating to be with the IRS and asking for your account information to deposit your stimulus check, that’s a scam. Do not provide that information. The stimulus check will be provided by mail and you do not need to provide a bank or any organization with your information. Also, be wary of any other phone call you may receive regarding COVID-19 as people are trying to take advantage of others during this troubling time.

Finally, as we continue to mention, people need to take this seriously. This falls on all of us. If people don’t take this seriously, things are going to get much worse. Our numbers are climbing, but state officials have said that things would be much worse if the governor hadn’t issued the “Safer at Home” order. The methods are working. We just need to keep following the guidance of the CDC and the state so we can get Wisconsin back open for business and get things back to normal. But you must take this seriously. We must put aside petty partisan politics and work together. This is a trying time, but we will get through it with the right mindset and if we work together and help each other along during these difficult times. If there’s anything we can do at Central Wisconsin Broadcasting to help, please reach out. We have many resources available to you on our website and Facebook page and were happy to answer your questions. If we can’t, we can put you in touch with someone that can. But above all, stay calm, buy your groceries one week at a time like always and take care of yourself.

Feel free to contact us with questions and/or comments.
