Wisconsin continues to lead the nation in the total number of milk goats. As of January 1, the USDA reports that the state's total dairy goat count was 82,000 head, which was up 14 percent from early 2019.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, the agency also reported last week that the state's sheep and lamb inventory as of the first of the year totaled 81,000 head, which was a seven percent increase from the previous year. Total breeding stock grew by five percent at 66,000 head. Market sheep and lambs totaled 15,000 head, an increase of 25 percent.

And the lamb crop for 2019 was 62,000 head. Wisconsin's wool production totaled 340,000 pounds during the past season, which was a 10,000 pound gain over the year prior.
