Look for the Helpers: AbbyBank

Wednesday, March 25th, 2020 -- 9:24 AM

-“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”

Those are the inspiring words to Mr. Rogers from his mother. In this cycle of what seems to be doom and gloom news, we’re going to try and find the helpers. Today, we look at AbbyBank. They have connected and partnered with three local hospital providers; Marshfield Clinic Health Systems, Ascension and Aspirus, and they have collection bins available at their Abbotsford, Medford, Wausau and Weston locations to collect; Hand Sewn Masks, N95 Masks, Gloves, Gowns, Face shields and Goggles. The bank has also purchased materials to make the hand sewn masks and are asking employees that know how to sew to make them for the hospitals that are accepting them. Employees can sew them at home or bring in their machines and do it at the bank. And during any downtime the bank may experience as their lobby is closed, they can make masks and potentially be doing other things to help out. Some of their locations have also been purchasing takeout food at local restaurants for lunch to help support them during this time.

AbbyBank’s CEO also announced that he will be buying every branch lunch from a local restaurant next week. The bank had also just bought hand sanitizer as promo items about two months ago, he gave one to every employee and then donated the rest to the hospitals. This may be a stressful situation for everyone, but we will get through this. Let's all work together and help each other along as we take the current situation day-by-day. And, if possible, make sure you continue to support our local businesses. They’re going to need our support now more than ever. If you know of someone who’s going above and beyond to help the community during this difficult time and would like them to be acknowledged for their work, please send me an email with details to [email protected].
