Marshfield Woman Caught Licking Handle of Freezer Door in "Protest of Coronavirus"

Friday, March 20th, 2020 -- 11:39 AM

(Marshfield News Herald) -A 23-year-old Marshfield woman was banned from a store after licking the handle of a freezer door, according to police, as in protest of the coronavirus.

At 2:20 p.m. Saturday, the manager of a Marshfield business reported he was sanitizing the handles in the freezer section of his store when he looked over and saw the woman, according to police. The woman looked at the manager and then licked the handle of a freezer door, according to the report. The manager immediately sanitized the licked door handle and called police to ask for a welfare check on the 23-year-old woman, according to police. An officer talked to the woman, who said she licked the door handle in protest of the coronavirus. The police report did not state whether the woman said she was protesting the virus itself or the procedures in place to slow the spread of the virus.

The woman became confrontational with the store manager, and the manager requested the officer order the woman not to return to the store, but he did not want her charged, according to the report. An officer told the woman her behavior was uncalled for. The woman told the officer she had not made similar protests anywhere else.
