Granton Village Board Discusses 5-Year Utility and Road Project Plan

Friday, March 20th, 2020 -- 11:21 AM

-The Granton Village Board discussed, with engineers, the village's 5-Year Utility and Road Project plan at their meeting on Tuesday.

The village continues to search for ways to control the phosphorus levels in the waste water ponds. The DNR has granted the village a 5-year variance to allow the village to formulate a plan. The engineers will complete a design report, estimated to cost $3,000-$8,000 dollars, to provide the best solution. A quick review of the plant suggests the most reasonable control measure would be crop land irrigation. The irrigated land must produce a crop to qualify for grant funding so the most likely crop would be hay. Over watering tends to be a problem for other crops. Also, County Road K is scheduled to be resurfaced.

The village will be responsible for the shoulder and the curb and gutter. The village water and sewer lines run under county K and were originally installed in the 40s. The board and engineers discussed replacing these lines and repairing the side walks at the same time. The engineers provided grant possibilities and a time frame scenario. The engineers will submit the first of the grant applications this fall and spring. Once they know what is approved, they will revisit the item.
