Granton School Board Approves Policies

Thursday, March 12th, 2020 -- 10:35 AM

-The Granton School Board approved some policies at their meeting on Monday.

The board approved the Chapter 5 School Board Policies related to Support Services. They also approved the 4K/5K Out of State Field Trip to Minnesota, approved the Visioneers Out of State Field Trip to Chicago and approved the Start College Now & Early College Credit Program Applications. Finally, the board approved the 2020-2021 CESA Service Contract, approved adding the Instructional and Behavioral Coach position and approved the District Administrator contract for Dennis Kaczor. The board also heard the Administrators’ Reports. Principal Amanda Kraus updated the board on the pool hours. They changed the swim lesson times to June only. July numbers trail by 50% and the various school districts can only bring in June this year. The 8am-6pm Swim Lessons in June will still have the summer snack/lunch offering. In July, from 10am-2pm Monday-Friday, they will have an Open Swim/Lap Swim and Sunday night open swim. She also stated that middle school track will be starting shortly and they need to decide if the district is going with Loyal or Neillsville. Middle School is not affiliated with WIAA but the district would like to decide quickly so that the other school can prepare for their students.

The board decided to continue co-oping with Neillsville. Finally, she stated their Monthly Incentive will be academically related. Students are asked to pick 2 classes to show growth by the conclusion of March. The positive incentive picked is roller-skating. Superintendent Scott Woodington share an update on COVID-19 from the Clark County Health Department. He also stated the U.S. Dept. of Education has reversed course for now on a change that would have impacted federal funding to rural schools across the country. The U.S. Department of Education’s recent changes in eligibility requirements for the Rural Education Achievement Program, specifically for the Rural and Low-Income Schools component of REAP, could have resulted in a loss of funding for approximately 800 rural schools. The REAP program currently provides $185.8 million to rural school districts.
