February Youth Rotars from Rotary Club of Black River Falls

Tuesday, March 10th, 2020 -- 10:42 AM

-Zoe Dal Cerro and Laura Hefty were the February Youth Rotars for the Rotary Club of Black River Falls.

Both are seniors at the Black River Falls High School. Youth Rotars are selected by their school and Rotary as representatives of “good citizens” in both their school and their community. Youth Rotars spend one month attending the Rotary Club’s meetings and give reports on school events. At their last meeting, they are presented with the Rotary Club of Black River Falls flag. The Youth Rotar Program runs from September through May with two representatives each month, except the month of December.

Zoe is the daughter of Catie and Stephen Dal Cerro. She has one sister. In school, Zoe is involved in National Honor Society, Student Senate, Band, Interact Club, Civics Team, Golf, GSA, Tiger Investment Club, Quizbowl and she is also a Volunteen. She currently works at the Lunda Community Center and Viva Cinco de Mayo which has taught her important interpersonal skills. Outside of school and work she enjoys knitting, thrifting, practicing saxophone and spending time with family and friends. Zoe plans on attending UW Madison School of Business to major in Business and Finance. When asked about her time as a Youth Rotar, Zoe said, “I thought the Rotary Club did an amazing job of representing the community and I loved conversing with the members during lunch.”

Laura is the daughter of Tanya and Jeff Hefty. She has one sister. In school, Laura is involved in National Honor Society, Pep Club and she is the secretary of Green Team. She currently works at Re-Pete’s Saloon & Grill which has taught her that there will always be obstacles in life but by having a positive attitude, you can truly get through anything. In her free time she enjoys reading, fishing, four-wheeling, traveling, nature walks, spending time with friends and family and snuggling with her dogs Riley and Charlie. After graduation, Laura plans on attending UW Green Bay with hopes of being accepted into the Nursing Program to become a Registered Nurse. She would like to work as an Oncology Nurse one day. When asked about her time as a Youth Rotar, Laura said, “Before attending the Rotary meetings, I never knew how amazing and important our community is. There was a guest speaker at each meeting and they taught us how they are impacting our area. Being able to see how a meeting runs and what makes it go smoothly was also very interesting to me.”
