CANDIDATE STEPS FORWARD FOR NEXT YEAR'S SHERIFF'S RACE

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005 -- 6:10 AM

The next Clark County Sheriff?s election isn?t until next November, but a Willard man is announcing he?ll be a candidate for the Democratic nomination for that position.

67-year-old Tony Trunkel touts a 40-year career in law enforcement, which started when he was a patrolman for the Neillsville Police Department in 1963. Most recently, Trunkel worked for the U.S. Marshall Service.

"Through experience, effectiveness and efficiency I can improve the whole operation of that office," Trunkel told WCCN on Monday.

Trunkel says he?s not running because of dislike for current sheriff Louis Rosandich; this is just something he wants to do.

"This is something I though about four years ago. The more I thought about it, I have trust in the Clark County voters - if I'm on the ballot, I'll leave it up to them and whatever way they go will be fine with me."

Trunkel is a member of the Wisconsin Narcotics Officers? Association, and the Wisconsin Sheriff?s and Deputy Sheriff?s Association.
