Senator Baldwin Says Junk Insurance Will Damage Nation's Ability to Fight COVID-19

Wednesday, March 4th, 2020 -- 11:31 AM

(WRN) -Senator Tammy Baldwin says junk insurance policies being allowed under changes to the Affordable Care Act will damage the nation's ability to fight the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Baldwin says a lack of decent coverage deters people from getting treated.

"Often don't even cover something like the coronavirus test, or they could leave patients paying the bill out of pocket."

Baldiwn says she's putting pressure on insurance companies that sell short term insurance plans, so-called junk plans, to ensure that they're going to make testing for COVID-19 or the coronavirus available to all of their patients.

"I'm calling on insurance companies to put people ahead of their junk plan profits so that Wisconsinites can get the information, testing and care they need."

She's calling on the President and Congress to fix the law that allows low quality insurance plans and improve treatment options for Americans.
